Stress

Man: Hi ! How are you?

Woman: Hi ! Not so good. Been in a lot of stress lately.

Man: Stress? Why? What's wrong?

Woman: 'Sigh'....lot of work. First, my boss wants me to do research. Then few minutes later, he wants me to a report on current revenue. Now he wants me to prepare and present a slide to clients on new products. How am I going to cope with all the task given to me? I'm not even finish with my first task ! 'Sigh'...

Hi everyone...

Look at the scenario above. Have you ever been in that situation? I'm sure all of you do. I'm sure all of you have been experiencing it and in fact currently experiencing it including myself. Have you ever heard of anyone saying they don't feel stressed at all for his or her entire life? If they do not have stress, I guess they are perfect human being. Don't you think so? There's no such think as everyone's perfect. Nobody is perfect in this world.

If you are stressed, what do you do? There are ways of handling stress but first lets find out what stress is.

So, what is stress? Well, stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or suspense and a difficulty that causes worry or emotional tension. Don't understand? Let me put it in another way. Stress is your body's way of responding to any kind of demand which can be caused by both good and bad experiences. When people feel stressed by something going on around them, their bodies react by giving people energy and strength, which can be a good thing if the stress is caused by physical danger. On the other hand this can also be a bad thing, if their stress is in response to something emotional and there is no outlet for this extra energy and strength.

Another question. What causes stress? There are many different things that can cause stress. It can be from physical to emotional stress. The most common source of stress are people who worry about things you can do nothing about or worrying for no reasons at all. Its basically people who make themselves stress.

This usually happens when we worry about things we can't control or put ourselves in situations we know will cause us stress. Some people become addicted to the kind of hurried, tense, lifestyle that results from being under stress. They even look for stressful situations and feel stress about things that aren't stressful.

Stress not only comes from within yourself as mentioned above. It is also comes from the situation around you for instance noise, crowding and pressure from work or family.

Lastly, a stress that builds up over a long period of time and can take a hard toll on your body. This kind of stress can be caused by working too much or too hard at your job, school or at home. It can also be caused by not knowing how to manage your time well or how to take time out for rest and relaxation. This can be one of the hardest kinds of stress to avoid because many people feel this is out of their control.

Stress can affect both your body and mind. People who are very stressful can become tired, sick and unable to concentrate or think clearly. Sometimes they can even suffer mental breakdowns.

How to handle stress? One of the most significant problems human beings face as a general population is how to handle stress. There are number of ways that you can reduce stress in your life. You may not always be able to make stress disappear, but you can manage it with some very simple techniques.

How can you tell when you're stressed? Generally, an increased pulse rate is a good indication that your adrenaline has gone up, but you can be stressed while having a normal pulse rate. If you experience stress, you don't need anyone to tell you that you really need to relax. If you don't make an effort to cut out the stress from your life, it could cause serious problems to your health and well-being.

On handling stress, start with your state of mind. Be positive about things in life and accept that there are events that you cannot control. Don't let anger, frustration, or fear crowd your mind. Try to look for constructive solutions instead.

Talk. Don't hold all your feelings within. Talk to someone you trust who will listen without being judgmental or pressuring you to their own point of view. Even if you can't change the immediate situation, talking about it helps alleviate some of the tension you may be feeling.

Relaxation techniques are useful to reduce stress. Make time to relax your muscles each day and you will be amazed at how quickly the physical tension is reduced. Relax by listening to music, meditating, playing with your pet, having a nap or reading a good book.

You can reduce stress by using your time and energy efficiently. A realistic list of things to do for the day is a good start. Set your priorities and learn to slow down. You know what? Sometimes a change, no matter how small it can be; it can do wonders for your spirit. Forget it all for awhile. Go somewhere else for a few hours or a few days if you can afford too. Which I'm sure you can spare some time for yourself.

Lastly learn to be happy. Focus on the good the good things about yourself and in your life. Nobody's perfect. Learn to enjoy the "little things" that make you happy. Count your blessings.

Some of you may have other ways of reducing stress. Well, I'm just sharing with how I handle my own stress. I hope it helps.
