The World's Billionaires

The World's Billionaires
Luisa Kroll, Matthew Miller and Tatiana Serafin, 03.11.09, 06:00 PM EDTIt's been a tough year for the richest people in the world. Last year there were 1,125 billionaires. This year there are just 793 people rich enough to make our list.
The world has become a wealth wasteland. Like the rest of us, the richest people in the world have endured a financial disaster over the past year. Today there are 793 people on our list of the World's Billionaires, a 30% decline from a year ago.
Of the 1,125 billionaires who made last year's ranking, 373 fell off the list--355 from declining fortunes and 18 who died. There are 38 newcomers, plus three moguls who returned to the list after regaining their 10-figure fortunes. It is the first time since 2003 that the world has had a net loss in the number of billionaires.
In Pictures: The 50 Richest People In The World
The world's richest are also a lot poorer. Their collective net worth is $2.4 trillion, down $2 trillion from a year ago. Their average net worth fell 23% to $3 billion. The last time the average was that low was in 2003.
Bill Gates lost $18 billion but regained his title as the world's richest man. Warren Buffett, last year's No. 1, saw his fortune decline $25 billion as shares of Berkshire Hathaway
It was hard to avoid the carnage, whether you were in stocks, commodities, real estate or technology. Even people running profitable businesses were hammered by frozen credit markets, weak consumer spending or declining currencies.
The biggest loser in the world this year, by dollars, was last year's biggest gainer. India's Anil Ambani lost $32 billion--76% of his fortune--as shares of his Reliance Communications, Reliance Power and Reliance Capital all collapsed.
Ambani is one of 24 Indian billionaires, all but one of whom are poorer than a year ago. Another 29 Indians lost their billionaire status entirely as India's stock market tumbled 44% in the past year and the Indian rupee depreciated 18% against the dollar. It is no longer the top spot in Asia for billionaires, ceding that title to China, which has 28.
Russia became the epicenter of the world's commodities bust, dropping 55 billionaires--two-thirds of its 2008 crop. Among them: Dmitry Pumpyansky, an industrialist from the resource-rich Ural mountain region, who lost $5 billion as shares of his pipe producer, TMK, sank 84%. Also gone is Vasily Anisimov, father of Moscow's Paris Hilton, Anna Anisimova, who lost $3.2 billion as the value of his Metalloinvest Holding, one of Russia's largest ore mining and processing firms, fell along with his real estate holdings.
Twelve months ago Moscow overtook New York as the billionaire capital of the world, with 74 tycoons to New York's 71. Today there are 27 in Moscow and 55 in New York.
After slipping in recent years, the U.S. is regaining its dominance as a repository of wealth. Americans account for 44% of the money and 45% of the list's slots, up seven and three percentage points from last year, respectively. Still, it has 110 fewer billionaires than a year ago.
Those with ties to Wall Street were particularly hard hit. Former head of AIG
Last year there were 39 American billionaire hedge fund managers; this year there are 28. Twelve American private equity tycoons dropped out of the billionaire ranks.
Blackstone Group's
Worldwide, 80 of the 355 drop-offs from last year's list had fortunes derived from finance or investments.
While 656 billionaires lost money in the past year, 44 added to their fortunes. Those who made money did so by catering to budget-conscious consumers (discount retailer Uniqlo's Tadashi Yanai), predicting the crash (investor John Paulson) or cashing out in the nick of time (Cirque du Soleil's Guy Laliberte).
So is there anywhere one can still make a fortune these days? The 38 newcomers offer a few clues. Among the more notable new billionaires are Mexican Joaquín Guzmán Loera, one of the biggest suppliers of cocaine to the U.S.; Wang Chuanfu of China, whose BYD Co. began selling electric cars in December, and American John Paul Dejoria, who got the world clean with his Paul Mitchell shampoos and sloppy with his Patrón Tequila.

Swine Flu
4/27/2009 09:52:00 PMKey Facts about Swine Influenza (Swine Flu)
1. What is Swine Influenza?
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenzavirus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs. Swine flu viruses cause high levels of illness and low death rates in pigs. Swine influenza viruses may circulate among swine throughout the year, but most outbreaks occur during the late fall and winter months similar to outbreaks in humans. The classical swine flu virus (an influenza type A H1N1 virus) was first isolated from a pig in 1930.
2. How many swine flu viruses are there?
Like all influenza viruses, swine flu viruses change constantly. Pigs can be infected by avian influenza and human influenza viruses as well as swine influenza viruses. When influenza viruses from different species infect pigs, the viruses can reassort (i.e. swap genes) and new viruses that are a mix of swine, human and/or avian influenza viruses can emerge. Over the years, different variations of swine flu viruses have emerged. At this time, there are four main influenza type A virus subtypes that have been isolated in pigs: H1N1, H1N2, H3N2, and H3N1. However, most of the recently isolated influenza viruses from pigs have been H1N1 viruses.
Swine Flu in Humans
3. Can humans catch swine flu?
Swine flu viruses do not normally infect humans. However, sporadic human infections with swine flu have occurred. Most commonly, these cases occur in persons with direct exposure to pigs (e.g. children near pigs at a fair or workers in the swine industry). In addition, there have been documented cases of one person spreading swine flu to others. For example, an outbreak of apparent swine flu infection in pigs in Wisconsin in 1988 resulted in multiple human infections, and, although no community outbreak resulted, there was antibody evidence of virus transmission from the patient to health care workers who had close contact with the patient.
4. How common is swine flu infection in humans?
In the past, CDC received reports of approximately one human swine influenza virus infection every one to two years in the U.S., but from December 2005 through February 2009, 12 cases of human infection with swine influenza have been reported.
5. What are the symptoms of swine flu in humans?
The symptoms of swine flu in people are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
6. Can people catch swine flu from eating pork?
No. Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. You can not get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160°F kills the swine flu virus as it does other bacteria and viruses.
7. How does swine flu spread?
Influenza viruses can be directly transmitted from pigs to people and from people to pigs. Human infection with flu viruses from pigs are most likely to occur when people are in close proximity to infected pigs, such as in pig barns and livestock exhibits housing pigs at fairs. Human-to-human transmission of swine flu can also occur. This is thought to occur in the same way as seasonal flu occurs in people, which is mainly person-to-person transmission through coughing or sneezing of people infected with the influenza virus. People may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.
8. What do we know about human-to-human spread of swine flu?
In September 1988, a previously healthy 32-year-old pregnant woman was hospitalized for pneumonia and died 8 days later. A swine H1N1 flu virus was detected. Four days before getting sick, the patient visited a county fair swine exhibition where there was widespread influenza-like illness among the swine.
In follow-up studies, 76% of swine exhibitors tested had antibody evidence of swine flu infection but no serious illnesses were detected among this group. Additional studies suggest that one to three health care personnel who had contact with the patient developed mild influenza-like illnesses with antibody evidence of swine flu infection.
9. How can human infections with swine influenza be diagnosed?
To diagnose swine influenza A infection, a respiratory specimen would generally need to be collected within the first 4 to 5 days of illness (when an infected person is most likely to be shedding virus). However, some persons, especially children, may shed virus for 10 days or longer. Identification as a swine flu influenza A virus requires sending the specimen to CDC for laboratory testing.
10. What medications are available to treat swine flu infections in humans?
There are four different antiviral drugs that are licensed for use in the US for the treatment of influenza: amantadine, rimantadine, oseltamivir and zanamivir. While most swine influenza viruses have been susceptible to all four drugs, the most recent swine influenza viruses isolated from humans are resistant to amantadine and rimantadine. At this time, CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir or zanamivir for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with swine influenza viruses.
11. What other examples of swine flu outbreaks are there?
Probably the most well known is an outbreak of swine flu among soldiers in Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1976. The virus caused disease with x-ray evidence of pneumonia in at least 4 soldiers and 1 death; all of these patients had previously been healthy. The virus was transmitted to close contacts in a basic training environment, with limited transmission outside the basic training group. The virus is thought to have circulated for a month and disappeared. The source of the virus, the exact time of its introduction into Fort Dix, and factors limiting its spread and duration are unknown. The Fort Dix outbreak may have been caused by introduction of an animal virus into a stressed human population in close contact in crowded facilities during the winter. The swine influenza A virus collected from a Fort Dix soldier was named A/New Jersey/76 (Hsw1N1).
12. Is the H1N1 swine flu virus the same as human H1N1 viruses?
No. The H1N1 swine flu viruses are antigenically very different from human H1N1 viruses and, therefore, vaccines for human seasonal flu would not provide protection from H1N1 swine flu viruses.
Swine Flu in Pigs
13. How does swine flu spread among pigs?
Swine flu viruses are thought to be spread mostly through close contact among pigs and possibly from contaminated objects moving between infected and uninfected pigs. Herds with continuous swine flu infections and herds that are vaccinated against swine flu may have sporadic disease, or may show only mild or no symptoms of infection.
14. What are signs of swine flu in pigs?
Signs of swine flu in pigs can include sudden onset of fever, depression, coughing (barking), discharge from the nose or eyes, sneezing, breathing difficulties, eye redness or inflammation, and going off feed.
15. How common is swine flu among pigs?
H1N1 and H3N2 swine flu viruses are endemic among pig populations in the United States and something that the industry deals with routinely. Outbreaks among pigs normally occur in colder weather months (late fall and winter) and sometimes with the introduction of new pigs into susceptible herds. Studies have shown that the swine flu H1N1 is common throughout pig populations worldwide, with 25 percent of animals showing antibody evidence of infection. In the U.S. studies have shown that 30 percent of the pig population has antibody evidence of having had H1N1 infection. More specifically, 51 percent of pigs in the north-central U.S. have been shown to have antibody evidence of infection with swine H1N1. Human infections with swine flu H1N1 viruses are rare. There is currently no way to differentiate antibody produced in response to flu vaccination in pigs from antibody made in response to pig infections with swine H1N1 influenza.
While H1N1 swine viruses have been known to circulate among pig populations since at least 1930, H3N2 influenza viruses did not begin circulating among US pigs until 1998. The H3N2 viruses initially were introduced into the pig population from humans. The current swine flu H3N2 viruses are closely related to human H3N2 viruses.
16. Is there a vaccine for swine flu?
Vaccines are available to be given to pigs to prevent swine influenza. There is no vaccine to protect humans from swine flu. The seasonal influenza vaccine will likely help provide partial protection against swine H3N2, but not swine H1N1 viruses.

Maintaining Honesty and Integrity
4/27/2009 09:42:00 PMMaintaining Honesty and Integrity by Jim Rohn (excerpted from Cultivating an Unshakable Character)
For a leader, honesty and integrity are absolutely essential to survival. A lot of business people don't realize how closely they're being watched by their subordinates. Remember when you were a kid in grammar school, how you used to sit there staring at your teacher all day? By the end of the school year, you could do a perfect imitation of all your teacher's mannerisms. You were aware of the slightest nuances in your teacher's voice - all the little clues that distinguished levels of meaning that told you the difference between bluff and "now I mean business".
And you were able to do that after eight or nine months of observation. Suppose you had five or 10 years. Do you think there would have been anything about your teacher you didn't know?
Now fast forward and use that analogy as a manager. Do you think there's anything your people don't know about you right this minute? If you haven't been totally aboveboard and honest with them, do you really think you've gotten away with it? Not too likely. But if you've been led to believe that you've gotten away with it, there might be a good probability that people are afraid of you, and that's a problem in its own right.
But there is another side of this coin. In any organization, people want to believe in their leaders. If you give them reason to trust you, they're not going to go looking for reasons to think otherwise, and they'll be just as perceptive about your positive qualities as they are about the negative ones.
A situation that happened some years ago at a company in the
In any case, the employee was desperate. He approached the company CEO and asked him to talk to the insurance people. The CEO agreed, and the next thing the employee knew, the bill was gone and the charges were rescinded.
Then he told some colleagues about the way the CEO had so readily used his influence with the insurance company, they just shook their heads and smiled. The CEO had paid the bill out of his own pocket, and everybody knew it, no matter how quietly it had been done.
Now an act of dishonesty can't be hidden either, and it will instantly undermine the authority of a leader. But an act of integrity and kindness like the example above is just as obvious to all concerned. When you're in a leadership position, you have the choice of how you will be seen, but you will be seen one way or the other, make no mistake about it.
One of the most challenging areas of leadership is your family. Leadership of a family demands even higher standards of honesty and integrity, and the stakes are higher too. You can replace disgruntled employees and start over. You can even get a new job for yourself, if it comes to that. But your family can't be shuffled like a deck of cards. If you haven't noticed, kids are great moral philosophers, especially as they get into adolescence. They're determined to discover and expose any kind of hypocrisy, phoniness, or lack of integrity on the part of authority figures, and if we're parents, that means us. It's frightening how unforgiving kids can be about this, but it really isn't a conscious decision on their part; it's just a necessary phase of growing up.
They're testing everything, especially their parents.
As a person of integrity yourself, you'll find it easy to teach integrity to your kids, and they in turn will find it easy to accept you as a teacher. This is a great opportunity and also a supreme responsibility, because kids simply must be taught to tell the truth: to mean what they say and to say what they mean.
Praise is one of the world's most effective teaching and leadership tools. Criticism and blame, even if deserved, are counterproductive unless all other approaches have failed.
Now for the other side of the equation, we all know people who have gotten ahead as a result of dishonest or unethical behavior. When you're a kid, you might naively think that never happens, but when you get older, you realize that it does. Then you think you've really wised up. But that's not the real end of it. When you get older, you see the long-term consequences of dishonest gain, and you realize that in the end it doesn't pay.
Hope of dishonest gain is the beginning of loss.’ I don't think that old saying refers to loss of money. I think it actually means loss of self-respect. You can have all the material things in the world, but if you've lost respect for yourself, what do you really have? The only way to ever attain success and enjoy it is to achieve it honestly with pride in what you've done.
This isn't just a sermon, it's very practical advice. Not only can you take it to heart - you can take it to the bank.
To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

4/27/2009 07:28:00 PMFirst impression & Right impression
4/21/2009 11:19:00 PMHi again readers. How was my previous article on Susan Boyle? Hope you enjoyed it and learn from it. When you read my article on Susan Boyle, what did you gain from it? Well, personally, first impression is not that important. Some of you may disagree but look at Susan Boyle. She was decently dressed and clean but was laughed mercilessly by the audiences. In the end she stunned the audiences including judges with her amazing voice.
We all get a first impression of a new person that creates a mental image of his or her personality in our minds. That image of you often lasts and can affect the relationship that follows.
That’s the problem with first impressions; sometimes you catch someone on an off day, when they’re in bad mood, not dressed to impress, and you form a false impression of them from that one meeting. Image has always been everything, it seems, as people tend to judge you from the way you look or present yourself. Sometimes people may think they know you but how many of us are masking out true selves?
It takes just a quick glance, maybe three seconds, for someone to evaluate you when you meet for the first time. In this short time, the other person forms an opinion about you based on your appearance, your body language, your demeanor, your mannerisms, and how you are dressed. With every new encounter, you are evaluated and yet another person’s impression of you is formed. These first impressions can be nearly impossible to reverse or undo.
Of course we all want to make the best first impression. There are people doing it because of their jobs, some do it because they need to maintain a certain image to fit in with whoever or whatever it is they want, some to create a public self image. Stereotyping everyone. We’ve all done that at some point and probably still do it unconsciously. For instance the perceptions of all lawyers are crooked or people in fashion-related industries are shallow and materialistic or all politicians are corrupted.
You do not have to be any of the above, do you? The most unlikely people always surprise everyone. I personally think first impression is not that great or important. The most important is making the right impression. People need to make a right impression to get a job or to get a promotion or to win competitions etc. That’s when grooming and self-confidence comes in.
It’s really strange to find out that some people really don’t care enough to look presentable. I’m not talking about dress codes even though its good manners to follow one to which most of the time Malaysians never do. At the very least it’s just about looking neat and tidy. It’s not what you wear but the way you wear it. In fact, don’t have to be good looking to get your way all the time.
To look good and beautiful is not difficult to achieve. If you think you’re fabulous and believe strongly that you are, everyone else will automatically believe it too. Anything is possible and with strength of a will and mind will get everything you want. By the way, looking good makes you feel good and naturally makes you feel confident. Imagine how everything falls into place after that? Well, it’s the Law of Attraction. If you focused on positive things in your life, you will automatically attract positive things into your life. In other simple words ‘like attracts like’ or ‘positive vibes attracts positive things and people’.
Have a good day and I hope this article helps.

Sensational Susan Boyle (A very good lesson)
4/21/2009 07:38:00 PMAfter her performance:
“I am so thrilled because I know that everybody was against you. I honestly think that we were all being very cynical, and I think that's the biggest wake-up call ever. And I just want to say that it was a complete privilege listening to that.” -
“Just like the judges and audience, I was gob-smacked by the emotional powerhouse performance of Susan Boyle's show-stopping rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream". Vocally, it is one of the best versions of the song I've ever heard—touching, thrilling and uplifting. I do hope she gets to sing it for the Queen.” - Cameron Mackintosh, the producer of Les Miserables musical.
Finally a big congratulations to Susan who will continue to chase her dream. Something we should all be doing. I hope all of you readers had learn a valuable lesson from this article and from Susan Boyle as well. Please have a look at the videos on Susan Boyle below.

The power of being nice
4/20/2009 02:05:00 AM- pleasant or pleasing or agreeable in nature or appearance
- decent: socially or conventionally correct; refined or virtuous
- courteaous: exhibiting courtesy and politeness
Let me share with you something. To make it to the top or to be appreciative among your relatives, family or friends, the only way is to use by any means necessary. To be honest, I don't believe that especially in the business world. I disagree with the conventional wisdom that "Nice guys finish last" and "No good deed goes unpunished." Our culture has helped to propagate the myth of social Darwinism -- of survival of the fittest -- that the cutthroat "me vs. you" philosophy wins the day.
Nice has an image problem. Nice gets no respect. To be labeled "nice" usually means the other person has little positive to say about you. Nice is not naive and it does not mean smiling blandly while others walk all over you. Also nice does not mean being a doormat. In fact, nice is the toughest four-letter word you'll ever hear. It means moving forward with the clear-eyed confidence that comes from knowing that being very nice and placing other people's needs on the same level as your own will get you everything you want.
Think about it:
- Nice is luckier in love.
- Nice makes more money.
- Nice is healthier.
- Nice spends less time in court.
The moral of the story from the article above is that by being nice it helps lift up your spirits, be positive, makes you feel happy and it makes people feel important.

What is love?
4/13/2009 07:17:00 PMLove is patient, love is kind. It has no envy, nor it boasts itself and it is never proud. It rejoices over the evil and is the truth seeker. Love protects; preserves and hopes for the positive aspect of life. Always stand steadfast in love, not fall into it. It is like the dream of your matter of affection coming true. Love can occur between two or more individuals. It bonds them and connects them in a unified link of trust, intimacy and interdependence.
It enhances the relationship and comforts the soul. Love should be experienced and not just felt. The depth of love cannot be measured. Look at the relationship between a mother and a child. The mother loves the child unconditionally and it can not be measured at all. A different dimension can be attained between any relationships with the magic of love.
Love can be created. You just need to focus on the goodness of the other person. If this can be done easily, then you can also love easily.
When it comes to love it depends on context, love can be of different varieties. Romantic love is a deep, intense and unending. It shared on a very intimate and interpersonal and sexual relationship. The term Platonic love, familial love and religious love are also matter of great affection. It is more of desire, preference and feelings. The meaning of love will change with each different relationship and depends more on its concept of depth, versatility, and complexity.
At times the very existence of love is questioned. Some say it is false and meaningless. It says that it never exist, because there has been many instances of hatred and brutality in relationships. The history of our world has witnessed many such events. There has been hatred between brothers, parents and children, sibling rivalry and spouses have failed each other. Friends have betrayed each other; the son has killed his parents for the throne, the count is endless. Even the modern generation is also facing with such dilemmas everyday. But love is not responsible for that. It is us, the people, who have forgotten the meaning of love and have undertaken such gruesome apathy.
There are 4 common denominators of love: acceptance, appreciation, wanting another to feel good and attention. Acceptance is labeling someone as "okay" and having no particular desire to change them. Who they are is perfectly fine with you.
We want those we love to be happy, safe, healthy, and fulfilled. We want them to feel good in all ways, physically, mentally and emotionally.
There are many ways in which we give our attention to another. We use our five senses. Our ears to listen. Being completely present with the one who is speaking. Our eyes, watching another, undivided attention. Tasting/smelling? (I’ll let you figure that one out). Touching, giving a hug, holding a hand, a caress, or sexual expression. How you express your love depends on the type of relationship.
In psychology there are 3 components: intimacy, commitment and passion. Also, in an ancient proverb love is defined as a high form of tolerance. Love also includes compatibility but it is more of journey to the unknown when the concept of compatibility comes into picture.
Maybe the person whom we see in front of us, may be least compatible than the person who is miles away. Might talk to each other and portray the love for each other, but practically do not end up into any relationship. Also in compatibility, the key is to think about the long term successful relationship, not a short journey. We need to understand each other and must always remember that nobody is perfect.
Be together, share your joy and sorrow, understand each other, provide space to each other, but always be there for each others need. And surely love will blossom to strengthen your relationship with your matter of affection.
The blog above is basically based on my understanding. I hope it makes sense to you. Well, maybe not; I don't know. The best is if you could provide with some feedback or comments.
Okay, thats about it for now. See ya.

A Good Thursday
4/09/2009 10:49:00 AMYesterday & Today......
4/08/2009 10:10:00 PM"Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay,
Oh, I believe in yesterday"..................
I know, I know. Its gonna rain soon. Oh, shut up!!...lol. Its an old song by the Beattles. So what?..hehhehe.... I love that song. Keeps playing in my mind right now. Anyway yesterday was actually a good day for me. I guess so. So what did I do yesterday? Good question..hehehe...
YESTERDAY - March 24th 2009
Hmmm.....
The night before did not sleep. Well managed to sleep yesterday morning at about 7am. Woke up at about 10am and brought my grandpa to salon as he need to shave. He can't do it on his own, in fact I can't do it either. Why can't I do it? Well, I was scared of doing it wrongly. I'm no professional shaver.
So, what next? Basically did a lot of reading and went to USANA office. Most of the time doing lots of reading. Why reading? Well, I love to read. It keeps my brain moving. It stimulates your mind. It does. Besides the fact that it improves your language especially english, It really does stimulate your mind. Trust me, it does.
In the evening, went to USANA office. Listen to their presentation and testimonials. Have not been going to the USANA office for the past few weeks. Missed it but managed to be there last night. It was a good night. Last night's presentation was done by other group/team. After the presentation, they did some announcements and testimonials. The announcement were for 4 business associate who became Gold Directors and Silver Directors respectively. Congratulations to them!! It was a good experience last night and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It made me realized I need to do something.
After the presentation, went straight home. Wanted to talk to my parents about me attending a miniworkshopseries class in Subang Jaya. In that class, it teaches on becoming a speaker, trainer and a coach. I'm interested to be a speaker, trainer and coach. Need help with financial especially to pay the fees which cost RM6000.00 for a 2 weeks course. Unfortunately I was out of words. Don't know how to say to them..hehhehe. Will try again the next day.
TODAY - March 25th 2009
Today woke up early at 9am. Its the first time ever...hehehhe. This morning brought my grandpa to the Damansara Specialist for a medical check-up. Was there from 10am till about 1pm. The doctor said theres still some bacteria in his body. So he needs to continue taking some medications untill the next appointment on April 8th. Left hospital and went straight home. Had lunch at home. Had rendang dinding for lunch. My favorite. :)
Oh yes. Lets talk about reading. I love reading. I know, I've said before but I just wanna say it again. I LOVE READING. :) What do I read? Well, I read newspapers, magazines, novels, business books, motivation/self development books and ebooks.
I started reading when I was a teenager. Well at first it was not that active but only began to be active in reading in college. Or was it during my working days? Does not matter. The most important thing is me love to read. :)
I do not have any favorite author. All authors are good in their own way of writing. Every book has its own benefits especially in terms of getting knowledge, getting some learning experience and most important is the language and the way they write. I'm not saying, if I were to write; my grammar is perfect. I'm still learning the ropes of writing. Am I making any sense? Hope so.
Enough about reading for now. I did some thinking hours ago and now. I'm interested to be a speaker but I don't know how to start. I've mention a lil bit about my interest of being a speaker but I would like to go into bit detail. If you don't mind.
I've always wanted to be able to talk to hundreds or thousands of people at one time. I had this feeling of being a speaker after attending motivation/educational talks, seminars and watching some videos. My favorite speakers are Kiyosaki, Jay Abraham, Brian Tracy, Blair Singer, Tony Robbins, John Childers and many more. I love to see them speak. Its something special. I wonder how did they capture the audience attention and especially make them concentrate on listening and participating during the event. I envy them. I guess it comes with knowledge and experience.
I've learnt a lot from watching the speakers/trainers/coaches. From my observation or from my experience of watching them, it gave me an idea on the way they speak. They speak from the heart, by which they took advantage of their experience from their past in the working world or experience from their past as an individuals. Additional experiences would be education and life experience.
As a speaker, not only through life experience. It should also be from the way they speak. Example, their tone of voice; which must be very clear. Even if the speaker is a soft spoken in person, once in front of and audience it should be very clear. Other than their tone; the speaker should be very specific or in detail hence they should not speak too fast in order for the audience to understand.
Besides all of the above, the speaker should be spontaneous and fun as well. I mean, they should include humor in their speaking enggagement. I'm sure you do not want the audience to get bored and sleepy. If I were to be a speaker, my preference will be to speak on motivational or personal development.
I need to work hard and smart to achieve my goals, right? You bet! :) I wish to be like them. Hopefully one fine day. :)
Being a speaker is one of my goals. Speaking of goals, my other goals are to sponsor kids around the worl via an organization called World Vision. So far I've sponsored two kids, one from Thailand and the other from South Africa. Both the kids are so cute.
Anyway, tonight supposed to be badminton night. Unfortunately, it was cancelled. I'm assuming some of my friends could not make it. Well, theres always another day such as this coming Friday night. :) I love playing badminton. Actually the sport that I love most is soccer. I'm a huge fan of Liverpool FC. I've been a fan since the 80s to which unfortunately I'm not good with Liverpool's history.
Since there was no badminton, I went for a movie. I saw 'The International', starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. The movie was good but at the end of the movie theres a question mark. I don't get it at all. Well, maybe you might. Go watch it and let me know what you think of the movie.
I got back from the cinema half an hour ago. Now its 1245 midnite. Got to go now. Time to watch tv. :)
Good night and if you're reading this blog the next day, good morning, good afternoon and good evening. :)
Aur Revoir.
Disabled unfriendly in banks
4/08/2009 10:09:00 PMDisabled unfriendly in banks. Is it true?
Well, to answer the question above; yes its true. Don't get me wrong. I'm not here to discredit the banks in Malaysia but the fact is, it is happening here.
Its out in the papers here, today. I read the article and I found it disturbing. In fact after giving some thoughts on it, I realized it is true. Its sad to see the disabled especially the one on the wheelchairs who can't go to any ATM machine to withdraw or bank-in any cash or cheque.
Imagine yourself on a wheelchair going to the bank to withdraw some cash. Unfortunately you can't reach the buttons plus you can't even look at the screen properly. Instead you have to get someone to slot the ATM card and get the cash on your behalf to which is very risky. Risky because the person who helped could run away with the cash and bank card. Not only that it could also lead to missiong cash inside the bank.
The question is, are you willing to that? I'm sure the answer is no.
The banks should do something to make it easier for the disabled. They are human beings as well. They have feelings too. They are like us. Normal but the only difference is, they are wheelchair bound. The banks should think before putting up the ATM machine. I mean they should think of the disabled.
In other words, the banks should make their premises disabled friendly. I hope they will make some changes.
Question to Readers:
Do you agree?
What do you think?
Yesterday (Monday) - March 30th 2009
4/08/2009 10:07:00 PMGood morning!!! :)
Its 4.50am and I'm still awake. I'm right now in front of my tv watching 'The Tudors'. Its a drama series in HBO.
Monday, March 30th 2009. The first day of the week. People call it 'Monday Morning Blues' or in short 'Monday Blues'. What is 'Monday Morning Blues'? Monday morning blues probably resonates to most folks.
It’s a pretty common malady to wake up in a fog on Monday mornings, wondering what happened to our weekend? I wonder, then, if the real meaning behind Monday morning blues is that we have to ’snap out of’ our real, important life of just being with family and friends – and re-enter the working or business world, where we have to get into our working or business-mind and get out of our being-mind?
I’m fortunate enough to work from home, and I still feel the MMB! :) I commit to combine my being-mind with my business-mind and to remain in a state of calm and flow.
Do you have anything to share about Monday Morning Blues? What do you think it’s all about?
Monday was a good day. Woke up at 10.00am. Spent the whole day reading personal development on the internet. Other than that watching tv the whole day. Well, not exactly. Reading about NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) on the internet. In order to learn to be a coach or a speaker, NLP is very important. Since it is too expensive to learn NLP, so the only way to learn NLP without paying is thru the internet. :)
All the coaches or speakers around the world has NLP certificate.
What is NLP? NLP is Neuro Linguistic Programming. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is an extremely powerful concept. It is said by many to contain the most accessible, positive and useful aspects of modern psychology, and so can be helpful in virtually every aspect of personal and inter-personal relations. NLP has many beneficial uses for self-development, and for businesses and organizations; for example NLP enables better communications in customer service, and all types of selling. NLP enables better awareness and control of oneself, better appreciation of the other person's feelings and behavioural style, which in turn enables betterempathy and cooperation. NLP improves understanding in all one-to-one communications, especially interviewing and appraisals (whether used by the interviewer or the interviewee). NLP certainly features strongly in facilitative selling. NLP is an enabling tool of Emotional Intelligence (EQ), which is an aspect of multiple intelligence theory. Neuro-Linguistic Programming can also be very helpful forstress management and developing self-belief and assertiveness and confidence. The empathic caring principles of NLP also assist the practical application of ethical and moral considerations (notably achieving detachment and objectivity), and using loving and compassionate ideas (simply, helping people) in work and life generally. These few examples illustrate the significance of NLP as a concept for personal and organizational development.
NLP techniques help particularly by making it possible for people to:
- Set clear goals and define realistic strategies
- Coach new and existing staff to help them gain greater satisfaction from their contribution
- Understand and reduce stress and conflict
- Improve new customer relationship-building and sales performance
- Enhance the skills of customer care staff and reduce customer loss
- Improve people's effectiveness, productivity and thereby profitability
Other than reading and understand bout NLP, Monday was also sports day. Actually its not day but night. Monday night is badminton night. Played badminton every Monday and Friday. Every Monday will be at Stadium Juara near KLGCC and every Friday will be at Menjalara near Desa Parkcity.
Badminton court was booked by a friend. He booked 3 courts and unfortunately not many came. Unfortunately again he could not cancel the third court. Therefore still need to pay for the third court.
After badminton, left for supper at Nasi Kandar Penang in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. had my favorite indo mee telur mata with cili padi. :) Left home after supper.
Well, I hope you had a wonderful Monday. See ya.
