17 Principles of Personal Achievement by Napoleon Hill

12/26/2009 01:01:00 PM

For most of his life, Napoleon Hill lived with the conviction that every failure carried with it the seed of equivalent advantage. Here are his 17 principles for extraordinary achievement.

Lesson 1: Definiteness of Purpose

Definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all achievement. Without a purpose and a plan, people drift aimlessly through life.

Lesson 2: Mastermind Alliance

The Mastermind principle consists of an alliance of two or more minds working in perfect harmony for the attainment of a common definite objective. Success does not come without the cooperation of others.

Lesson 3: Applied Faith

Faith is a state of mind through which your aims, desires, plans and purposes may be translated into their physical or financial equivalent.

Lesson 4: Going the Extra Mile

Going the extra mile is the action of rendering more and better service than that for which you are presently paid. When you go the extra mile, the Law of Compensation comes into play.

Lesson 5: Pleasing Personality

Personality is the sum total of one’s mental, spiritual and physical traits and habits that distinguish one from all others. It is the factor that determines whether one is liked or disliked by others.

Lesson 6: Personal Initiative

Personal initiative is the power that inspires the completion of that which one begins. It is the power that starts all action. No person is free until he learns to do his own thinking and gains the courage to act on his own.

Lesson 7: Positive Mental Attitude

Positive mental attitude is the right mental attitude in all circumstances. Success attracts more success while failure attracts more failure.

Lesson 8: Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm is faith in action. It is the intense emotion known as burning desire. It comes from within, although it radiates outwardly in the expression of one’s voice and countenance.

Lesson 9: Self-Discipline

Self-discipline begins with the mastery of thought. If you do not control your thoughts, you cannot control your needs. Self-discipline calls for a balancing of the emotions of your heart with the reasoning faculty of your head.

Lesson 10: Accurate Thinking

The power of thought is the most dangerous or the most beneficial power available to man, depending on how it is used.

Lesson 11: Controlled Attention

Controlled attention leads to mastery in any type of human endeavor, because it enables one to focus the powers of his mind upon the attainment of a definite objective and to keep it so directed at will.

Lesson 12: Teamwork

Teamwork is harmonious cooperation that is willing, voluntary and free. Whenever the spirit of teamwork is the dominating influence in business or industry, success is inevitable. Harmonious cooperation is a priceless asset that you can acquire in proportion to your giving.

Lesson 13: Adversity & Defeat

Individual success usually is in exact proportion of the scope of the defeat the individual has experienced and mastered. Many so-called failures represent only a temporary defeat that may prove to be a blessing in disguise.

Lesson 14: Creative Vision

Creative vision is developed by the free and fearless use of one’s imagination. It is not a miraculous quality with which one is gifted or is not gifted at birth.

Lesson 15: Health

Sound health begins with a sound health consciousness, just as financial success begins with a prosperity consciousness.

Lesson 16: Budgeting Time & Money

Time and money are precious resources, and few people striving for success ever believe they possess either one in excess.

Lesson 17: Habits

Developing and establishing positive habits leads to peace of mind, health and financial security. You are where you are because of your established habits and thoughts and deeds.

A very good day indeed...

12/25/2009 10:44:00 AM
Today was a very good day.

Before that, yesterday (Friday) morning; I woke up with news of my sister in-law gave birth to a baby boy. I was surprised and happy to hear the news. Now my niece has a brother. Awesome!! :) As for his name, I was told that his middle name is Zaman but first name, nothing confirmed yet.

Today, in the morning I went shopping to buy birthday present for my niece. I went to Midvalley Megamall. I bought her a Strawberry Shortcake (cartoon character) digital watch. I went to a retail called 'Action City' to buy the digital watch. When I was about to pay using my credit card, they told me I can only use credit card for any purchase above RM50. I was taken aback. I didn't know that. I ask them whether there were any signage saying 'credit card can be use for any purchase above RM50'. They could not answer.

I told them I did not bring any cash and also told them that from my observation, there were no signage. In that situation, I was quite upset as they could not accept credit card. So, I asked them whether there are any other retails that sells the digital watch I wanted which will accept my credit card. They did not answer and in the end they relented and accept my credit card.

Later today in the afternoon, at the hospital; I was told that my new born nephew's first name is Ashaz. Therefore his full name is Ashaz Zaman bin Badrul Zaman. Ashaz means 'One in a million'. Nice name. Also today I celebrated my niece's birthday. She's 2 years old now. Had birthday celebration at the hospital. Whole family and relatives were there. I'm glad she liked the present I bought for her.

After her birthday celebration, I left the hospital. Went straight to a friend's home in Bangsar. Her name is Katia. She's Australian. Had my first Christmas dinner party there. Everyone was there including Katia and myself; namely Anna, Tomoko, Meher, Thomas, Eunji, Ranmi, Terra, Linda, Mailys, Jakob, A-Jull and Kristin.

I had so much fun. The dinner was delicious including dessert and cookies. Each of us have to wear a hat. I don't whether to call it santa hat or christmas hat. I believe it's called santa hat. After dinner all of us gets a present and we had to guess who gave the present. I got a note book from Eunji. It's a New Zealand beef note book. It's actually a note book with photos of the beef. What Christmas present did I buy and to whom? Well, the present I bought was to A-Jull. I got her a black shawl/scarf. I'm glad she liked it.

To be honest, I felt sorry for them during Christmas dinner party. I meant, I felt sad. They missed their family back home but they managed have fun together. Eventhough they celebrate Christmas among each other as friends but it felt like one big happy family celebrating Christmas together. I'ts my first time and I felt the same way too.

I'm happy I was invited. In fact I'm happy to be with them celebrating Christmas.

After Christmas dinner party, I sent Kristin to a taxi stand in Jalan Ampang. I Hope she arrived home safely. Soon after that, sent Anna and Tomoko home. Now I'm at home. Got home at 2.45am.

Well, that is it for now. Time for me to try and get some sleep.

See ya.

Keep your mind fixed on what you want in life. Not on what you don’t want.

12/23/2009 11:24:00 AM

If you focus on not missing the target instead of on hitting the target, the results are often disastrous. It is impossible to think negative thoughts in a positive way. Ask any golfer who has tried not to miss a putt or a bowler who has struggled not to miss a strike. Your goals should and must be specific and precise. "Making a lot of money" or "earning regular promotions" are not goals. It’s only wishes. State exactly how much money you expect to earn and when, the specific promotion you want, how you plan to earn it, and when you expect to do so.

Christmas food shopping

12/22/2009 08:17:00 AM
Today was a good day. What did I do today? I went to Midvalley Megamall with friends for Christmas food shopping. At first I went to UNHCR office and pick them up. Those who went were Eunji, Ranmi, Terra, A-Jull and Tomoko.

Before that, at home; I received an email from Meher saying I need to get present for a person. I was blur and confused. I asked her. She replied that she had sent an email with an explanation. She assigned each one of us who attend the christmas dinner to get presents. She also mentioned she's the secret santa helper. I replied I did not receive any email from her. So she sent another email with the details.

Now, back to shopping in Midvalley. When we arrived in Midvalley, it took half an hour or so to look for parking. Once we found parking space, we went to Carrefour.

Food shopping in Carrefour, Midvalley was fun. Had a great time. Were given a couple of lists with items to buy. We bought food items such as paprika, eggs, milk, cream, vegetables, carbonated drinks, alcohol drinks, chocolate and many more.

Soon after that, we went for dinner at food court. I had claypot mee, while the rest had japanese bento, asam laksa etc. The most interesting part was after dinner. We had a debate on development in the United Nations. Well, it was actually debate between A-Jull and Ranmi. It was an interesting debate. In fact it was a long debate with no end. Soon after that we decided to leave and head to Bangsar.

Sent the items to a friend's place in Bangsar. Then we left and I send them back home. I reached home at about 130am.

I can't wait for christmas dinner. It's gonna be my first christmas dinner.

Road to Success by Dr. Napoleon Hill

12/20/2009 09:03:00 AM

From today on you should take advantage of the opportunities that come to the person who uses initiative, because this is one of the most important sign boards on the Road to Success.

Your instructions in connection with this sign board on Initiative are simple and easily followed. For the next ten days make it your business to use Initiative by doing at least one thing each day that you are not told to do in connection with your work. Say nothing to anyone about what you are doing, but keep your own counsel and follow these instructions. If your work is of such a nature that you cannot perform work that you are not told to perform, then speed up a bit and perform more work and better work than you have been performing in the same length of time. Keep this up for ten days and by that time you will attract attention of your employer. You will also see, by the end of the ten days, that it will pay you to use Initiative the remainder of your life, because Initiative leads to greater responsibility, to a bigger pay envelope and helps you to get whatever you have decided upon as your definite aim in life.

Your mental attitude is the boss.

12/19/2009 09:36:00 AM

While your time and your job or work may be subject to the demands of your employer and others, your mind is the only thing that cannot be controlled by anyone else but you. The thoughts you think, your attitude toward your job and what you are willing to give in exchange for the compensation you are paid; are entirely up to you. It is up to you to determine whether you will be a slave to a negative attitude or the master of a positive one. Your attitude, your only master in life; is entirely within your control. When you control your attitude toward events, you control the eventual implication of those events.

We left for Penang immediately after work at 4pm. We drove all the way to Penang. It was an interesting journey I might say. Why interesting? Well, it's interesting because it took 6-7 hours to reach Penang. Not only that, had car trouble on the way to Penang which we had to stop at the rest area number of times besides stopping to have dinner. The most interesting part is where we got lost for 2 hours looking for the motel I booked. We reached our motel in Penang at 2am!!

The motel was nice. It's called 'Friendship Motel'. Its in Georgetown, Penang. Once we reached the motel, we head for bed except for myself. I couldn't sleep. It took me an hour to get some sleep. The weird part is suddenly I woke up at 7am! You know what? I felt fresh. Weird. Very weird. Wanted to woke my other 3 friends but decided against it as we arrived late the night before. So I woke them up at 9am. Was it 830am? I think it was 9am.

The second day in Penang, we went sight-seeing. We went to Hindu temples, Buddha temples, Floating mosque and Penang Hill. Visiting temples and mosque was very interesting especially for the girls. For me the best was at Penang Hill. The view was so beautiful. We also wanted to go to butterfly farm but it was too expensive and instead we had lunch by the beach. The girls had their first laksa penang and fresh coconut drink.

Later that day at about 630pm, we went for jazz feztival. We were arrived at the venue late. Well, I wanted to go back to the motel and freshen up first but change my mind after realizing it was too late for that. My bad! Once reached the venue, we had dinner at a hawker stall in front of the venue.

After dinner, we went in but missed the first 2 shows performed by Island Palm Beach Boys and Buzz Bros Band. We managed to watch the rest of the performers namely In The Country, Sizhukong, Studnitzsky Trio and Band of Brothers. It was fun watching them perform. Not only entertaining but the songs were good too.

We left the show after the performance from Band of Brothers, which was the last band. We went back to the motel. We reached the motel at 1am and head to bed. Again, I could not sleep for about an hour. Guess what? Woke up early at 7am! Again! Tried to wake up the girls at 9am but to no avail. Tried again at about 10am and finally they woke up.

We checked out from the motel and left our bags in the car and went for very late breakfast. We had meals at an indian restaurant. We had banana leaf rice. After meals, we went for a walk in Georgetown.

We left Penang at 6pm. We drove back to KL, arrived at 1am and sent the girls back to their homes. I reached home at about 230am.

Meher, Anna and Mailys; I thank you for the great weekend in Penang. I really had a great time in Penang. I hope you girls had a great weekend as well.

Well that's it for now.

See ya!

Stress

12/12/2009 03:48:00 AM
Man: Hi ! How are you?

Woman: Hi ! Not so good. Been in a lot of stress lately.

Man: Stress? Why? What's wrong?

Woman: 'Sigh'....lot of work. First, my boss wants me to do research. Then few minutes later, he wants me to a report on current revenue. Now he wants me to prepare and present a slide to clients on new products. How am I going to cope with all the task given to me? I'm not even finish with my first task ! 'Sigh'...

__________________________________________________________________

Hi everyone...

Look at the scenario above. Have you ever been in that situation? I'm sure all of you do. I'm sure all of you have been experiencing it and in fact currently experiencing it including myself. Have you ever heard of anyone saying they don't feel stressed at all for his or her entire life? If they do not have stress, I guess they are perfect human being. Don't you think so? There's no such think as everyone's perfect. Nobody is perfect in this world.

If you are stressed, what do you do? There are ways of handling stress but first lets find out what stress is.

So, what is stress? Well, stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or suspense and a difficulty that causes worry or emotional tension. Don't understand? Let me put it in another way. Stress is your body's way of responding to any kind of demand which can be caused by both good and bad experiences. When people feel stressed by something going on around them, their bodies react by giving people energy and strength, which can be a good thing if the stress is caused by physical danger. On the other hand this can also be a bad thing, if their stress is in response to something emotional and there is no outlet for this extra energy and strength.

Another question. What causes stress? There are many different things that can cause stress. It can be from physical to emotional stress. The most common source of stress are people who worry about things you can do nothing about or worrying for no reasons at all. Its basically people who make themselves stress.

This usually happens when we worry about things we can't control or put ourselves in situations we know will cause us stress. Some people become addicted to the kind of hurried, tense, lifestyle that results from being under stress. They even look for stressful situations and feel stress about things that aren't stressful.

Stress not only comes from within yourself as mentioned above. It is also comes from the situation around you for instance noise, crowding and pressure from work or family.

Lastly, a stress that builds up over a long period of time and can take a hard toll on your body. This kind of stress can be caused by working too much or too hard at your job, school or at home. It can also be caused by not knowing how to manage your time well or how to take time out for rest and relaxation. This can be one of the hardest kinds of stress to avoid because many people feel this is out of their control.

Stress can affect both your body and mind. People who are very stressful can become tired, sick and unable to concentrate or think clearly. Sometimes they can even suffer mental breakdowns.

How to handle stress? One of the most significant problems human beings face as a general population is how to handle stress. There are number of ways that you can reduce stress in your life. You may not always be able to make stress disappear, but you can manage it with some very simple techniques.

How can you tell when you're stressed? Generally, an increased pulse rate is a good indication that your adrenaline has gone up, but you can be stressed while having a normal pulse rate. If you experience stress, you don't need anyone to tell you that you really need to relax. If you don't make an effort to cut out the stress from your life, it could cause serious problems to your health and well-being.

On handling stress, start with your state of mind. Be positive about things in life and accept that there are events that you cannot control. Don't let anger, frustration, or fear crowd your mind. Try to look for constructive solutions instead.

Talk. Don't hold all your feelings within. Talk to someone you trust who will listen without being judgmental or pressuring you to their own point of view. Even if you can't change the immediate situation, talking about it helps alleviate some of the tension you may be feeling.

Relaxation techniques are useful to reduce stress. Make time to relax your muscles each day and you will be amazed at how quickly the physical tension is reduced. Relax by listening to music, meditating, playing with your pet, having a nap or reading a good book.

You can reduce stress by using your time and energy efficiently. A realistic list of things to do for the day is a good start. Set your priorities and learn to slow down. You know what? Sometimes a change, no matter how small it can be; it can do wonders for your spirit. Forget it all for awhile. Go somewhere else for a few hours or a few days if you can afford too. Which I'm sure you can spare some time for yourself.

Lastly learn to be happy. Focus on the good the good things about yourself and in your life. Nobody's perfect. Learn to enjoy the "little things" that make you happy. Count your blessings.

Some of you may have other ways of reducing stress. Well, I'm just sharing with how I handle my own stress. I hope it helps.
